Effective Communication

I was on the Ski Lift today at Keystone, when my cell phone rang and I got to talk to my mom… on top of a mountain at 13,000 ft above sea level, and it dawns on me. Isn’t technology wonderful? There have been so many instances on this Colorado journey that technology has saved me. I would not have the close relationship I have with my mother and select group of friends if it weren’t for all the technology such as cell phones, the internet, etc.
Facebook has been a very useful source in keeping in touch with family and friends since I am many many miles away from Florida. It is also, in general, a great way to keep in touch with anyone. When I decided to make the move to Colorado from Florida, I didn’t think about how hard it would be to keep in touch with everyone. As I was saying earlier, I find texting is easiest, because I don’t get good service where I live. That also has a negative impact, because I am not able to have as many personal conversations with people.
Using technology to keep in touch with friends and family has more positive impacts than negative impacts. I would much rather be able to send an informal text message than deal with writing letters, or communicating from a land line phone. It has also made me realize that technology has enabled me to explore other living options besides Florida. Moving out to Colorado for a semester, and staying in touch with my family and friends at home has made me see that I can take time to travel when I graduate and still be able to communicate effectively with everyone. Technology really does allow you to have the best of both worlds, staying in touch with home and traveling to see different places.

To conclude this assignment I would like to display this video that reiterates the changing world we are in and how technology has escalated this to happened beyond anything we thought was possible. The same way one who moved across the country would never have thought communication would be this simple and instant 20 years ago.

What ever happened to a good old fashion phone convo?

Remember back in the day, when you called someone from a LAND line? Imagine how that would be today... it sounds so "middle school" but that's what everyone was doing at the time. The dating world now feels consumed with emails and text messages. Texting has come the new form of communication people use to talk to each other... in any type of relationship. Insights and articles about dating have conformed from a "When to call him" to how to go about texting him. (See:http://www.cosmopolitan.com/sex-love/relationship-advice/relationships-and-texting?click so although we have all these excess means of communication, we have to further decode what one really means. You can't hear a tone of voice or see facial expressions with a text message, but it seems to be the easiest form of communication people are using these days.
Living away from home across the county, has been a more difficult time to communicate and stay in touch with family and friends in Florida. Texting has saved this. Working a full time job and everything else I do has made it hard to find time to phone family and friends... shooting a text makes it that much easier and we are able to communiate on a regular basis.
I couldn't imagine writing letters to home and never being up to date on all my Florida friends life happenings.

Communication is indeed more regular, but something is lost by the art of the text message. Conversations are kept short and sweet through texts. No one goes into excess detail, it is very blunt. Making phone conversations is a more effective way of communication, and relationships should not be ruled strictly by the text message.

There is also a communiation feature that sounds pretty pathetic but I think a majority of us are guilty of using it for communication. I feel that it is on the level of text message... but better! Cause you can say more of what you want to say.. and that is the glorious FACEBOOK chat. It's no secret that facebook is one of the most popular means of communication these days. Faebook chat is an awesome feature that allows you to go into greater depth than a text message would... and it gives the conversation more formality. Not as much as a phone call of course, but it works.

Happy =)

Glad last week is over.
Yeahhh Buddyy....

So.. Topic of the day= "How ipod's have ruined gym romances"
J.J. and I were talking about going to the gym and how there is usually very attractive guys there, some or most of the time, these are attractive guys who are single and available. Back in the day... before ipod's and MP3's... the gym was a very open eligible location to spark up a conversation, thus leading to mad flirting, and... eventually land a date. Everyone at the gym is in a good mood and Endorphins are running wild. It was the perfect place to casually start up a convo that would lead from one thing to the other.
Until... the invention of ipod's. Now, at the gym a vast majority of people working out have their ipod's in ear. This lessens the chance of talking to the person next to you. If you do talk to them it's the awkward... take the headphone out of your ear and ask for the question to be repeated..or, it's the getting the courage to ask someone a question (initiating a conversation) and them not hearing you... making it ten times worse than the first time to asks them the question so they can hear it and not make it sound like it was planned out.
So, you see, the invention and availably of the ipod has turned a castle of dating beginnings into a nothingness of what could have been true love...

So, sorry Apple, but your product is ruining fate in gyms everywhere.

Good Talk.
Hoping to have a great week! St. Patty's day on Wednesday! Yayyyyyaaa

Long Distance Lovers

Isn't technology wonderful?
That question/statement can mean so much with so little words.
It means....
the technology they have available today has allowed me to keep in deep touch with my friends and family in Florida while I am half way across the country. I can skype with my mom, text message, and obvi. there is facebook to keep in touch with everyone else. If I didn't have all these communication means to keep in touch with my family and friends... I think I would be home sick more often than not. Since I can keep up with everyone and have the access to do that, I feel that Florida is not very far away.

It's a beautiful day outside...
I have a good feeling about today.

So Natural...

Yesterday, went to Vail. Had my best day yet! It was so much fun!! Like one human soul shouldn't be allowed to have that much fun. I can feel myself getting better at skiing.. or more confidant at least. I feel that I got worked... but a good kind of worked. Even though I love Colorado so much, and I am having the time of my life... I am pretty true to that fact I am "from" Florida and I will always refer to Florida as home cause it really is a bad ass place to grow up and live in. Come on... summers on the beach! Who could argue with that one..
So. I just googled the top reasons to live in Florida, cause I wanted to see what others had to say and, go freakin' figure my luck, this is what shows up:
"Top Ten Reasons to Leave Florida"
"Top Reasons Florida Need an Insurance Reform"
..... awesome. Haha Obviously those jokers have never seen the Emerald Coast beaches...

Any How. The goal for this week is to start looking into a Summer Job. Hopefully I figure something out.

Here are some pics from Vail Yesterday...
Grilling Out On Blue Sky Basin...   (Like on top of the Mountain! Siccckkkk)

Believe me when I say...

Have you ever wondered....
If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a song about him?
Do illiterate people get the full effect of Alphabet Soup?
Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?
If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?
Why is there a light in the fridge and not in the freezer?

In the 60's, people took acid to make the world look weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it look normal.
hahahahahha

All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
Isn't this so true Summit County...

Just a day...

Feeling Sick... Lame.
Depending on Snow conditions, gonna go to Beaver Creek or Vail Sunday. At least that will give me something to think about/look forward too.
Need to get Crackin' on website stuff.
The goal is to have all the content put together by the end of March. Yikeesss
I would check the weather but it's like shooting at a dart board to make sure the snow is going to be good this weekend.
It's weird watching everyone be on Spring Break. Like knowing that is what all Florida State Students are doing... and I am not. Not complaining though... just strange. Kinda miss Florida today
It varies day by day depending on the conditions of the day. Whether I get home sick or not.

This is today's Quote of the Day:
"Do not anticipate trouble or worry about what may never happen.
Keep in the sunlight. "
B Franklin

... Kind of ironic cause I found myself not sleeping last night thinking about and actually worrying about what may never happen. I just need to let it be. I guess that's what the night time does to you.. and then you wake up feeling so silly you actually wasted time worrying. When you could have been at peace, resting.... ohh life.

Mmmm Whatcha Sayyyy....

So this week flew by thank goodness, and I got to fully enjoy my day off yesterday!! I was so wonderful... I didn't even set an alarm... I basically did whatever I wanted. I got to ski Vail for the first time. Other than the snow being crap it was so fun! It would have been better on a powder day, but what can yah do? I love my new sched. I have 3 days at summit foundation and then a weekend day off: Sunday.

"What's the use of worrying?
It never was worth while,
So pack up your troubles in your old kit-bag,
And smile, smile, smile.
-- George Asaf

I like this quote because sometimes I catch myself worrying about the dumbest thing. The best advice about worrying comes from my mom who tells me to just let it be. If you like doing what you do, than do it. Don't let worries stand in your way of enjoying yourself.

This was at the top of Vail grilling out for lunch... so fun!!

Party Party Party....
